Title IX Gets a Makeover

The National Women’s Law Center has helped overturned and replace a policy loophole that has undermined the effectiveness of Title IX since 2005. The new policy, issued this week by The Department of Education, restores Title IX benefits and protections for female students across the US.

Title IX protection for girls’ sports is important because athletics teach the value of life-long fitness, increase girls’ confidence, reduce body images issues, provide learning tools and experiences that help women succeed in business,  and reduce health risks. Additionally, girls pick up on gender biases at an early age; gender-biased athletics funding communicates to girls that it isn’t as important for girls to be physically active.
